8 IDEAS TO EDIT YOUR HOME AND CREATE SPACE
1 | A HAPPY HOME
Our outside world is a reflection of our inner world, which is why it’s important to create a regular practice of bringing awareness to your space and ensuring it’s in alignment with how you want to feel. If your space is cluttered then making time to clear out unwanted mess can be a positive step to creating a happy home.
2 | THE FIRST STEP
Go through each room in your home and decide which room needs the most attention then start there. You may like to sort each room over a few days, however, by starting with the biggest room you can avoid getting overwhelmed.
3 | ONE ROOM AT A TIME
Rather than editing your home in one go, simply go through one room at a time. You may find that you’d like to edit each room differently and refresh the interiors of various rooms as you move through. By completing each room individually you will be able to consciously dedicate the time you need to make the most of decluttering and create a result you’re proud of.
4 | SORT THE MESS
Once you’ve started to work through things you want to keep and throw away, begin to sort them into a keep, throw and repair pile. You may like to separate these into boxes to make the process easier. Once you’ve sorted everything into your piles you can begin organising the items you would like to keep into their place.
5 | BETTER THAN NEW
Be conscious about any items which could be repaired instead of thrown away. You may like to set aside a day to fix some furniture pieces or take them to an expert to repair them for you. Another option is to restore old furniture pieces by giving them a fresh coat of paint, upholstering chairs with new fabric or even something as simple as changing the draw handles for something more modern.
6 | FROM TRASH TO TREASURE
Once you’ve finalised the items you want to throw away, asses if there is anything you could sell or donate to a new home. This is a great opportunity to sell items you no longer enjoy having in your home and put your money towards a timeless piece you’re going to cherish for years to come.
7 | BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF
Decluttering can be a tricky task, especially when you’re not sure if you will need the items again or not. If you’re unsure about letting go of any items then a simple solution is to put them in a box for a few weeks and see if you take them out of the box during that time to use them. If not, then it may be time to donate the item to someone who needs it.
8 | CREATE A ROUTINE
Once you’re finished editing your space and feel like you’ve created a happy and organised home, the last thing you need to do is commit to a declutter routine. Whether it’s monthly or seasonally, set a routine for when you’re going to sort through your home to ensure everything is organised and gives you a feeling of spaciousness.
