TOTEM ROAD Curated X Bettina McILwraith workshop series.
Join us on Sunday the 10th December for our first workshop hosted by G-Lish Foundation. Learn traditional Northern African weaving techniques and come away with your own Bolga Basket. Please note this is a ticketed event and places are very limited!
ABOUT G-LISH FOUNDATION
G – Lish foundation was founded by weaver and international development practitioner Godwin Yidana, who was born in Ghana and emigrated to Australia in 2013. Godwin is a cofounder of G-lish Foundation, a social enterprise generating vital income and choices for rural families in Ghana.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
In this workshop, you’ll learn to weave with recycled G-lish materials and learn the traditional Bolga basket weaving technique—the same weaving technique G-lish Foundation weavers use. Co founders of G-Lish Foundation, Godwin Yidana and Gayle Pescud, will be teaching you how to weave your own small basket. You will be using recycled Ghanaian fabric and recycled plastic twine all handmade by G-lish producers and only available exclusively in workshops. You’ll also receive recycled Australian shopping bag twine handmade by Godwin.
During the workshop, you'll hear stories about weaving heritage, culture and life in Bolgatanga, the town from which this weaving style originates and still flourishes today.
We will also be providing an organic lunch with refreshments and all of your weaving materials will be included.
WHO CAN DO THIS?
Whether you're a novice or an experienced weaver we hope you will have fun, learn and be inspired with your own basket and a new set of skills to take home with you.
