HOW COULD YOUR MATTRESS BE AFFECTING YOUR SLEEP?

HOW COULD YOUR MATTRESS BE AFFECTING YOUR SLEEP?

July 24, 2017

One thing that could seriously be affecting the quality of your sleep and also your health is your mattress.

You may be unaware that volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the form of formaldehyde, solvents and flame-retardants are often used in synthetic mattresses to meet with fire regulations. This means you will be breathing in VOC’s at night when your body should be doing its repair work.

There is also a link between these chemicals and conditions such as cancer and chronic fatigue. So when purchasing a mattress looking at materials and fabrication is fundamental.

  • Invest in an organic wool covered latex mattress. These materials are natural fire retardants that meet with regulations without the need for using added toxic chemicals.
  • As natural latex mattress are made from the sap of the rubber tree they also have the added benefit of being naturally resistant to mould, fungi, bacteria and dust mites, which means they are hypoallergenic and will ultimately improve your breathing throughout the night.
  • Dress your bed with organic linen. Linen works as a thermo/cooling regulator which also allows the skin to breathe.
