HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SUSTAINABLE FURNITURE
We often get asked questions about caring for your sustainable furniture and to ensure your timeless pieces maintain their beauty for decades to come we’ve put together a few tips and instructions to help guide you.
MOVING YOUR FURNITURE
When moving your Totem Road furniture we suggest using the supplied furniture glides on the feet of all Totem Road products. Then with larger items, such as our beds and dining tables we always recommend lifting as opposed to dragging to ensure the timber joints and screw threads remain of the highest quality. When transporting your furniture it’s best to wrap and secure it well, while being mindful of the weight of solid oak when lifting and disassembling your pieces.
CARING FOR YOUR TIMBER
Over time the natural beauty of your sustainable solid oak furniture will enhance as the patina develops. To ensure you maintain the beauty of your pieces we always recommend to avoid placing solid oak furniture in direct sunlight or the path of air conditioning. As the timber will naturally expand and contract and exposure to sunlight or temperature variations will exacerbate this movement, which could lead to weak points or cracks.
If you accidentally spill something on your solid oak furniture then simply use a dry cotton cloth and if necessary, a damp cloth to remove any severe dirt or fluids immediately. Solid oak is known to absorb moisture over a few hours, so we suggest that any spills are wiped dry as soon as possible. It’s always best to refraining from using any cleaning solutions or solvent on your furniture as this may damage the finish.
CARING FOR YOUR MARBLE
Always use placemats or coasters to avoid scratches on your marble furniture. If a scratch or chip does occur we always recommend seeking the advice or service of a professional. Scratches can quite easily be buffed out with some water and sandpaper, however, to ensure your beautiful piece of furniture remains as high quality as possible we always advise speaking with a professional when considering scratch removal or chip repair.
For any spills or stains that occur we suggest treating them as soon as possible with a damp cloth. If the stain does happen to persists, then simply apply a ph-balanced scouring cleaner using a soft bristled brush but remember to not use any acidic cleaners as this will damage the finish of your product.
