The past couple of years have been a whirlwind of ups and downs and at Totem Road, we are proud to have maintained our core beliefs while navigating many challenges.
Totem Road is a sustainable furniture brand deeply rooted in doing what's best for the planet. Where we source our materials from, who we work with and how we make our products is important to us - it's not always the fastest or the easiest route to market but it's not something we will ever waiver on.
WE USE FSC CERTIFIED SOLID OAK
This means we select-log our wood to support regeneration, biodiversity and the protection of native fauna. Every last piece of wood is utilised in our manufacturing and as a result, we have some of the lowest wastage percentages in the industry.
WE CHOOSE LOWER IMPACT, ALWAYS
We use materials and processes that have a lower planetary impact. Often this slows the overall speed to market, but it's much gentler on our environment and that matters to us more. For this reason, we don't offer Express Shipping, we don't Air Freight and order bulk units rather than individual orders from our factories.
WE DESIGN FOR THE FUTURE
Totem Road products are designed with durability and longevity in mind. In Sydney alone, there is the equivalent of 1.65 million dining tables thrown into landfill or onto the kerbside every year*. We don't want our pieces to be part of this statistic which is why we design for the future. We don't follow trends and we don't launch seasonal collections. Totem Road designs are timeless, minimal, high quality and when cared for, will last beyond a single lifetime.
WE HAVE A TRANSPARENT CHAIN OF CUSTODY
We work with a small, family run factory and each of our items are individually stamped. We do not mass produce, we do not design for trends or seasons. Consciously creating pieces that will last beyond a single lifetime is of the utmost importance to us.
WE ARE FOREVER EVOLVING
Sustainability is forever changing - and what sustainability means to each business and individual differs greatly. To us, it means to tread lightly on the planet. To look after our people. To continually learn and update our practices to be better. In a world of greenwashing, we are transparent and honest about our approach to business and design. This won't change in 2023, or ever.
