Emerging from a shared reverence for refined minimalism and enduring craftsmanship, Totem Road partner with Art2Muse to present a curated capsule of soft abstract paintings. This collaboration marries age-old techniques with modern sensibilities, creating works that harmonise with the timeless elegance of Totem Road’s furniture.
Presenting a capsule of serene and timeless works by Sydney-based artist Leanne Thomas, on display now at Totem Road Gallery.
A collaboration with Art2Muse:
This collection, bought to you by Art2Muse, invites viewers to inhabit a space of quiet reflection, where every painting resonates with the same serene and enduring quality as Totem Road’s furniture.
“A collaboration that marries elements of refined minimalism and timeless sophistication, harnessing age-old techniques to craft modern, elegant objects of enduring beauty.” — Leanne Thomas
“Leanne Thomas’ soft abstract series are created from handmade paints by Old Holland in the Netherlands, designed to last over 300 years. Using Old Masters’ techniques of layering oil paint and pigments, Leanne crafts works that are beautiful, timeless, and perfect for contemporary spaces. Her evocative abstracts perfectly complement the enduring elegance of Totem Road’s collection.” — Katrina Hampton, Art2Muse Gallery
Leanne Thomas is known for her floral oil paintings and, more recently, for her abstract explorations of form, light, and quietude. Formerly an art director in advertising, her practice has grown from a desire to express her love of nature, classical art, and beauty. Committed to creating work that exudes light, life, and hope, her paintings invite viewers to pause, reflect, and breathe.
Leanne reflects on her process:
“The work echoes my time in the studio, a cherished space where I create. To make work like this, my day needs to be quiet and still — morning exercise, a sauna, sitting in the early sun with coffee, and then time at my studio desk to reflect and plan. Sometimes there’s music, sometimes ambient sounds — birds, chickens next door, wind in the trees, distant cars — the daily hum. A quiet space to make quiet work.”
Totem Road’s Guide to Styling Artwork in Your Home:
- Choose artwork that complements the size of your furniture. Large statement pieces pair beautifully with minimal, clean-lined furniture, while smaller works can create intimacy on shelves or sideboards.
- Harmonise artwork with the palette of your room. Soft abstracts or neutral tones work effortlessly with timber and natural textures, while bolder pieces can act as a striking focal point.
- Mix different textures to create depth — pair a smooth oil painting with the grain of solid oak or the softness of linen upholstery for a layered, tactile feel.
- Allow room for each piece to be appreciated. Avoid overcrowding walls; leave negative space around artwork to let both the art and furniture shine.
- Mix Personal and Timeless Pieces. Combine curated artworks with sentimental items or collected objects. The contrast of personal touches with timeless furniture makes interiors feel lived-in and soulful.
