Grounded in a mutual appreciation for nature, craftsmanship, and quiet contemplation, Totem Road partners once again with Art2Muse to present a curated capsule of atmospheric landscape paintings by Victorian-based artist Paul McIntyre. His contemporary abstracts balance restraint and warmth, echoing the timeless materiality at the heart of Totem Road.

“My art is a reflection of the curiosity and sense of wonder that I feel when I’m immersed in nature. The landscape is ever changing, intricate, diverse and vast and seems to be a limitless source of inspiration.”- Paul McIntyre

A collaboration with Art2Muse:
Totem Road and Paul McIntyre share a reverence for natural environments, Totem Road through responsibly sourced oak and enduring craftsmanship, and Paul through his atmospheric abstractions that capture the movement, mood and energy of the natural world. This collaboration celebrates that shared ethos: slow design, honest materials, and art that evokes connection.
Paul selects sustainably sourced flooded gum frames for his evocative landscapes and seascapes inspired by the Mornington Peninsula coast where he lives as a full-time professional artist.
“My landscape paintings pair naturally with Totem Road’s sustainably sourced timber furniture, blending tactile warmth and visual calm in the same space. Together we create an environment that honours nature through craftsmanship and art.”
- Paul McIntyre

Paul's Process:
Paul’s early works were abstract landscapes often with a solitary figure traversing a dreamlike world. The figures vanished (as he wanted the viewer to place themselves into the work) and the paintings became semi abstract and referenced actual places and experiences. This led to Impressionism and then more detailed realistic work. His current approach attempts to have more movement and freedom, but these shifts are gradual.
“Art is incorporated into daily life. The morning walk at the local foreshore is an essential start of the day for me and my dog. As I make my way through the trees and along the beach, I’m actively seeking inspiration for painting”.

“Paul often focuses on the effects of light at dawn, dusk or twilight to evoke stillness, introspection or a contemplative atmosphere in his paintings. Over the years his style has progressed from Impressionism to Pointillism and more recently to more detail in the brushwork to capture the movement of the landscapes and seascapes. This collaboration of Paul’s paintings and Totem Road’s timeless style where furniture and art are curated together to evoke mood and connection to nature.”
